Nexon is apologizing for the launch issues of its new co-op shooter, The First Descendant, by offering players bonuses such as increased XP and gold gains for a limited time.
The First Descendant made a splash on Steam yesterday, July 2, by dethroning FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree from the Steam best-seller spot. However, only 43% of user reviews at the time recommended the game, with issues like microtransaction practices and technical glitches marring the overall experience for players.
Shortly after launch, developer Nexon outlined all of the known issues across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms in the tweet below. The First Descendant is currently facing a number of issues, including framerate drops, Easy Anti-Cheat not working properly, consumable items not working properly, and in-game challenges not tracking as they should.
Here are some known issues that were discovered after the official launch on July 2nd. We will be continually updating this advisory with any additional issues and bugs discovered throughout the month of July, so keep an eye out for updates as you play. ✅https://t.co/NYTk0l6s10 pic.twitter.com/YTWyWRnrItJuly 2, 2024
As an apology for these issues, Nexon announced compensation for The First Descendant players in the tweet below. For three days, players can now earn more gold, XP, and Kyper Shards, as well as boosted XP for Weapon Masteries. Finally, there will also be two Matte Red Paints that players can claim. Once the boosts are claimed from your in-game mailbox, they will activate immediately.
📢 We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused on the opening day. As an apology, we have prepared compensation for you. We will continue to strive to provide more stable service. At the time of writing, The First Descendant now has 12,466 user reviews on Steamand 46% of reviews are positive about the new shooter. Many of the issues, according to the latest reviews, seem to be with shaders, where the shooter immediately crashes when trying to compile shaders for players.
This situation is reminiscent of Kuro Games’ Wuthering Waves, which launched earlier this year in May with a flurry of technical and other issues. The Wuthering Waves developer has offered similar compensation to players, multiple times in fact, as the launch issues were not immediately resolved and left a sour taste in players’ mouths for weeks.
