So far, only one game published by Activision Blizzard has been integrated into Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service, nearly a year after Microsoft finalized its deal to buy the massive Call of Duty publisher. But a new report claims that more Activision games will (slowly) start coming to the service in the near future.
In January 2023, Xbox announced its intention to purchase Activision Blizzard King for a total of $69 billion, the largest acquisition in the history of the video game industry. It took nearly a year of legal proceedings and hearings around the world before Microsoft could officially consume the publisher on October 13, 2023. Now that the deal is finalized, Xbox owns a ton of franchises and games, including Call of Duty, WarcraftAnd candy Crush. But so far, eight months after the deal was struck, only one Activision game…Diablo IV— has made its way to Game Pass. However, it looks like more are finally on the way.
According to a report from Windows Central July 3, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is set to arrive on Game Pass in August. N. Sane Trilogy is a remake of the first three originals Crash Bandicoot games and was released in 2017 to critical acclaim and big sales.
It is also rumored, but not confirmed by the media, that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy are also slated to arrive on Game Pass after Accidentmaybe later this year.
When will Call of Duty games come to Game Pass?
While I’m not a fan of the video game industry cannibalizing itself, which often leads to less competition and more layoffs, it would at least be nice to see some free games coming out of it. So it’s nice to see that finally, after almost a year, more Activision titles beyond Diablo IV will be coming to Game Pass.
The big question I have is: when will Xbox bring all the features? Call of Duty games on Game Pass? Most franchises are already playable on Xbox Series X|S, provided you own the games, so all that’s left is for Microsoft to flip the switch and make these games available to subscribers. I suspect that as we get closer to the launch of Black Ops 6 On October 25th, a game that arrives on Game Pass on day one, we’ll start seeing older versions Codarrives on the service.
For now, though, it seems like Xbox is taking its time bringing Activision’s catalog back to Game Pass. It’s a stark departure from how it handled Bethesda’s game library after acquiring the company.
