First descendant
The Colossi in The First Descendant are probably the most interesting fights in the game, given that they don’t just involve shooting three immunity balls over enemies’ heads like 95% of the others. But they can also be the most frustrating with mechanics or tactics that are often unexplained.
One “wall” players may encounter when facing the Dead Bride, the level 41 Colossus that can still cause problems even if you’re maxed out at level 40 yourself. But after running into trouble in several fights, I’ve beaten her and have a few tips to share. First off, the biggest problem with this fight is:
Alone. She.
I can’t stress this enough and it’s going to be the key to the whole fight. Yes, a very effective team. can Sure, I beat her, but “random matchmaking” and “highly effective team” rarely go hand in hand. The reason you want to solo her is because her health drops significantly, making her massive shield much less of a problem. I still died after a few tries, but ultimately I think I beat her on my third attempt. Other tips:
- Fire – She’s a Chill Colossus, so fire is her big weakness. This is obviously going to be very useful if you’re Lepic, the fire guy, but if you’re, say, Viessa, it’s a problem because you just can’t use your skills at all. I beat Freyna on her, but she’s also somewhat resistant to poison. So the main thing you can do is use fire mods on your weapons that will add fire damage which will be very useful. My main weapon that I used here was a beam rifle coupled with a sniper for big low-shot damage. I had Thunder Cage but didn’t use it much.
- Cold resistance – This is a basic mod that you should throw on your Descendant and level them up a few times. I had 600 cold resistance and the fight recommends 1600 but I didn’t want to spend that much material and it ended up being okay. I mean, it hurt, but I survived.
Cold resistance
- Missile attack – That’s a bad shot. It goes through cover and you just want to dodge it until it’s over.
- Ice Cube Attack – This one hurts if caught, but I found that you can move sideways while shooting and dealing damage relatively easily. A good opportunity to hit.
- Kingfishers – Clear these monsters frequently, as not only will they overwhelm you, but they will also drop all the health, ammo, and MP you will need.
- Ultimate Attack – When she becomes immune, she creates a giant area of cold that you have to escape from as quickly as possible. This is where cold resistance comes into play. It’s easier on Bunny with your speed move, but you can get away with a grappling hook, as all classes take little damage. You can stop this phase by shooting weak point cylinders at her frost arm, but I never really got her out of it, I just waited.
Just be aware that his shield makes up the vast majority of his health, and his actual health bar will quickly decrease once you manage to break through it, so don’t give up if you feel like you’re way behind in terms of damage.
She’s tough! But yes, it’s totally doable solo, because your teammates will only make things worse. Good luck!
