For those wondering how long it will take to complete PlayStation’s next big title, Astro Bot, a new interview with Team Asobi creative director and president Nicolat Doucet has revealed some interesting new facts about the game.
The interview is broadcast via YouTube in French Julien Chiezeand was later shared by user “Remember_Spinal” on IconEra with a breakdown of what was discussed in English.
One key takeaway is the game’s length. Doucet estimates that it will take players between 12 and 15 hours to complete, roughly the same amount of time as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The director and producer reportedly told Chièze that the team wanted a game that felt consistent throughout the experience and had each level of the same quality, rather than stretching things out over a longer total length. In other words, Asobi prefers a short game to one that feels repetitive.

Elsewhere in the interview, we also learn that the studio has set up a dedicated team solely to explore the possibilities of the DualSense controller, has completely overhauled the Astro’s Playrooom engine, and that Asobi is set to continue updating Astro’s Playroom with new unlockable PS5 hardware if the company releases more. I recently got to play Astro Bot and had an incredible time. I wrote, “I couldn’t show you even 30 seconds of my Astro Bot experience without discovering something new and exciting to see or do. It’s a celebration of what makes 3D platformers so compelling, as much as it is a celebration of all things PlayStation, and powered by the platform’s new de facto mascot, it’s utterly emblematic of the sheer wonder that is video games. If the final product makes me smile and cheer even half as regularly as these few levels, it’ll be hard to beat Astro Bot as the happiest game of the year.”
And if you’re invested in the current ARG-style updates and puzzles in Astro’s Playroom in anticipation of the new game, we’ve got all the answers right here.
