It seems that the original developers of The black once had a follow-up project in the works, according to a recent Instagram post from singer-songwriter Freyja Garbett.
Released in 2011 by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games, The black was a hit action-adventure game set in Los Angeles in 1947. It followed the rise of detective Cole Phelps as he solved a variety of cases across different offices.

However, after the release of The black, The Bondi team closed down, but a studio made up of former team members was soon formed and is now known as Video Games Deluxe. It was this team that worked on LA Noire: The VR Files which was released in 2017.
However, according to a recent Instagram post that has since been deleted, Australian composer and performer Freyja Garbett has revealed that she is working on music for the upcoming Video Games Deluxe game which is reportedly titled Sowden House.
“From the creators of The black come Sowden Housea psychological thriller set in 1940s Los Angeles that will make you question your sanity,” Garbett posted alongside a music video of him recording.
“I never thought I’d write for a video game, but I’m grateful for the opportunity! This was the second recording session dedicated to video games and it features the “jazz band,” she continued.
If you’re a fan of true crime, you’ll know that Sowden House refers to a home owned by Dr. George Hodel, one of the prime suspects in the Black Dahlia case in 1947. It was in this house that Hodel’s son claimed the murder took place.
However, Video Games Deluxe has since released a statement regarding the piece of music and reveals that it has nothing to do with its current project.
“We work exclusively on projects for Rockstar. We commissioned music from a local composer, Freyja Garbett, for a virtual reality project we were working on a few years ago, in between projects,” they said.
“It is based on a case of The black “This project was not selected, but it was more of a technical demonstration than anything else. We do not know if this project will ever see the light of day, but we decided to complete the score commission to support a local composer.”
So it remains to be seen what will happen to Sowden House but with such an intriguing story behind it, we hope it will one day see the light of day.
