What is Connections?

Connections is a daily crossword puzzle published by the NYT, home of the ever-popular Wordle. Created daily by crossword creator Wyna Liu, Connections presents you with a selection of 16 seemingly disparate words, and you must group them into four groups of four, where each group of four words has a common theme.

For example, the words “Hook”, “Nana”, “Peter” and “Wendy” are all characters from Peter Pan. Or to take another example, “Action”, “Ballpark”, “Go” and “Stick” are all words that are usually placed just before the word “Figure”.

Your task is to find out which themes connect the different words together. But be careful, because there are often red herrings deliberately placed to confuse you! To win the game, you must find all four connections without making 4 mistakes. On your fourth mistake, the game is over and the answer is revealed automatically.

Each of the four groups in each day’s Connections puzzle is also associated with a different color, which represents how easy or difficult the connection is to find. These colors are: yellow (easiest), green (easy), blue (medium), and purple (hardest).
