Alderon Games, the creator of Dinosaur MMO The path of the Titansannounces that it is replacing its 13th and 14th generation Intel servers with AMD servers and is urging other game server hosts to do the same. The developer has been experiencing “significant” instability issues that none of the patches have so far resolved, wrote Alderon founder Matthew Cassells in a blog post last week.
Cassells wrote that Alderon has recorded “thousands of crashes” on players’ CPUs using its crash reporting tools, and claims that CPUs can also corrupt SSDs and memory. He added that in his team’s experience, 100% of affected CPUs “degrade over time, eventually failing.” In contrast, Unreal Engine decompression tool maker RAD Game Tools, which Cassells cites in the blog, say that “only a small fraction” of processors are affected.
Earlier in the week, a Warframe developer written on the game forums that “nearly all” of the recorded crashes were due to driver failures in Intel’s 13th and 14th generation processors. He noted that the crashes observed on one staff member’s gaming rig stopped after installing a recent driver BIOS Updateeven though Intel said in June that the problem it is solving is not the root cause of the instability.
