How to access the Concord early beta
PlayStation has opened Concord early access beta to players who pre-ordered And all PlayStation Plus members.
Where to pre-order
Original story: PlayStation and Firewalk have announced the dates for Concord’s promised beta access in July, giving curious players the chance to see what the upcoming 5v5 character-driven first-person multiplayer shooter is all about before its full launch on August 23.
The beta will run in two phases, with an Early Access phase from July 13-15 for those who pre-order the game (and four of their friends, so they can bring the whole team), and then an Open Beta phase from July 19-22 where anyone on PS5 or PC will be able to download and try it out, with cross-play enabled between the two platforms.
The Concord Beta will offer access to four maps from the game initially, with a fifth map being introduced during the Open Beta weekend, and will also feature three game modes during the Early Access Beta weekend before adding another during the Open Beta. Players will be able to try out all 16 launch characters and see the first of the game’s cinematic vignettes showcasing the world and stories of the Northstar crew.
You can get more details on all the maps and modes featured in the PlayStation Blog article here.
Alongside the reveal of the beta dates, a number of hands-on previews of the game have been released online, and so far they’re pretty positive about the experience.
VGC believes that the first reveal trailer really did the game a disservice, and it’s more than meets the eye, saying, “Firewalk says all the right things. It’s also created a game that, based on our early testing, is awesome. While the recent reveal was arguably a misstep (a sentiment echoed by most of the media at our session), it doesn’t reflect the high-quality shooter that Firewalk has produced.”
PC Gamer Overview claims that the comparisons to Overwatch aren’t entirely accurate, saying: “I’ve played it now and can confirm: Concord is not Sony Overwatch, and it’s fun. I don’t know if it will be a Helldivers 2 levels phenomenon, but if it’s the multiplayer hit of the year, Concord might at least be the multiplayer hit of the summer.
IGN wasn’t particularly impressed with the game’s balancing and controls, but hopes these issues will be fixed before launch, writing in its Preview“Thankfully, there are still a few months left until Concord launches, which leaves some time to balance and polish every aspect of the game, which is always happening at this stage of the development process. Hopefully, Concord can improve its hover controls and balance its characters before its August 23 release on PS5 and PC.”
