I haven’t played Counter-Strike 2 in a while, but I know a big update when I see one. That’s right: Valve has added new crates just outside the Counter-Terrorist spawn, near Bombsite A. This means that players can now use these crates to seamlessly jump from the CT to the catwalk, where previously you had to use your teammates’ heads as a springboard. What does this mean to a layman who occasionally plays the game? More than you might think!
Just outside the CT spawn, you’ll find new crates hidden just below the catwalk above. Here’s a clip of the new boost in action:

Previously, whether you were a terrorist or a counter-terrorist, you would not have been able to access the bridge without: 1) assistance; 2) laboriously circling the bomb site. This last step is all the more difficult when you add to it the possibility of seeing the same smoke grenade shown in the clip above, as well as possible players on Long A (after crossing the smoke), or on the bridge, or on the bomb site itself.
It seems like Valve added these new crates to balance things out. Dust 2 has always been a terrorist-oriented map (an easier positional game for attackers, basically) and now it only takes one smoke grenade to block CTs’ vision, whereas before it took two. With these crates, CTs are less likely to get stuck between their spawn and the smoke, making it a little easier for them to pivot and defend.
As you can probably tell, I’m not a CS strategist. But the introduction of these crates almost certainly makes things easier for CTs and will likely create a ton of new actions – maybe a new meta. A ten-year-old Ed would have been checking out Twitch to see how pros are adapting to these crates in an effort to climb the ranks. Now, those days are behind me and I think my stress levels are thanking me for it.
Any other things to note in the update? No, not really. You can check them out here.
