Developer Hello Games has announced and released update 5.0 for No Man’s Skywhich is now available on all platforms.
Since its disastrous launch in 2016, No Man’s Sky has received countless free updates, transforming what was a barren sandbox into the engaging and interesting space exploration/survival/base-building monster it is today. Hello Games recently announced its new title, Light, no fireIt would be entirely reasonable to assume that No Man’s Sky would be left to its own devices. No, not even a little.
Given the name Worlds Part I, this latest update is arguably the game’s biggest yet, reworking and refining so many systems and elements that it almost feels like a completely different experience. full list of patch notes It’s crazy, but here are some of the most visible inclusions from the outside:
- Water, including seas and oceans, has been redesigned. Bodies of water will now feature waves and currents, which change dynamically based on weather conditions.
- Planets have been refreshed to look more distinct and unique. Gravitational anomalies will create floating islands for you to land on, explore, and build on.
- A new range of creatures has been added, merging flora and fauna to create strange new plant-like animals (plantimals?)
- Wind and weather models have been significantly improved, with objects on land reacting to gusts dynamically.
- An all-new expedition (The Liquidator Vanguard) has you playing as Starship Troopers, searching for a new species of insect across the universe
- Expedition rewards are also new, including mountable trophies and a bug armor set.
- The new volumes help create more varied and interesting cloud models that will change and evolve with each planet’s weather
- Shadow depth and detail have been improved and will now change based on the position of the solar system’s sun
- The Minotaur. Without mincing words, it’s a mech, a usable mech. Linked to the Liquidator expedition, players will be able to craft and pilot this combat mech.
Honestly, the list is long, so I’ll be here all day. Those who want to get a good idea of the update without spending all day leafing through patch notes can watch a little hands-on dive from Hello Games’ Managing Director Sean Murray.
Well, it looks like I’m going to download No Man’s Sky Again. The craziest part about this whole update is that it’s called Worlds Part Ia fact that Sean emphasizes in the video above, saying there’s a lot more to discover in this rags-to-riches space exploration game.
