This is a standard game of VALORANT. To achieve victory, you need to win 13 rounds in total. The game is split into two halves of 12 rounds each, after which you will switch from attack to defense or from defense to attack. Unranked mode is where you will play to learn the game and prepare for Competitive mode. This is a great place to learn the maps in the current map pool, try out new angles and formations, and test out new agents.
Unranked will require you to manage your economy throughout the match, including pistol rounds, bonus rounds, save rounds, force buy rounds, and full buy rounds.
Duration of the match: 30 to 45 minutes
Daily quests? 25 percent of a control point per turn won
Weekly quests? Yes
Who is he talking to ? This is the most standard game mode, ideal for learning the game, preparing for competitive mode and trying out new agents.
This is the same mode as an unranked match, but competitive. You will need to reach level 20 to unlock competitive matches, but you can then queue up. When playing this mode, you will first play five placement matches to determine your initial rank for the current act (season). After that, you will gain or lose Rank Rating (RR) based on whether you win or lose the match and how well you perform. If you do exceptionally well in a match, you can gain between 20 and 30 RR, but the reverse is also true. If you are evenly matched, you can gain or lose around 10 to 15 RR.
The victory conditions for a Competitive match are the same as for an Unranked match, with one difference. While the first team to reach 13 rounds wins in an Unranked match, if two teams reach 12 rounds each, a Competitive match will enter overtime mode. Once there, you will play one round of attack and one round of defense. If you win both, you will win the Competitive match. If you split from the enemy team, another overtime round will begin until one team wins both rounds or the players vote for a draw.
Duration of the match: 30 to 45 minutes and more

Who is he talking to ? For those who want a competitive experience. You will encounter serious players who expect you to know what you are doing, especially as you move up the ranks.
Added in 2023, this mode most closely resembles an unranked match. However, as the name suggests, Swift Play is… fast. Instead of the initial 13 rounds, the game is split into two halves of four rounds each, and the first to five rounds wins.
Swift Play’s economy is also adjusted due to the shorter game length. You won’t need to manage your economy as much as in an unranked match, as you receive increased credits each round.
The gameplay is exactly the same as an Unranked or Competitive match, but with fewer rounds. You’ll still need to plant and defuse the spike and work with your team to win. You’ll likely find players playing Quick Play rounds more casually than you would in an Unranked or Competitive match. Quick Play is also a great mode to quickly try out new agents or get your bearings before jumping into a full match.
Duration of the match: 15-20 minutes
Daily quests? 25 percent of a control point per turn won

Who is he talking to ? A very casual game mode that is often used as a warm-up match before people jump into ranked or if they only have a short time to play.
Spike Rush is an extremely casual game mode. It is divided into two halves of three rounds each and the first to complete four rounds wins the game.
When attacking, each player receives one spike instead of a single spike in an Unranked, Competitive, or Swift Play match.
Additionally, players do not purchase weapons every turn. Instead, each player receives the same loadout of weapons and shields based on the turn. Players also receive all full charges of their abilities, with the exception of their ultimates.
Instead of the ultimate point orbs on the map, they have all been replaced with various bonus orbs like Stalking Wolves, Full Ultimate Charge, and the Stim Pack. Because of this, Spike Rush is not taken very seriously by most players. Expect to encounter people who are just having fun playing this mode and trying to get into mischief from time to time.
Duration of the match: 10-15 minutes
Daily quests? 50 percent of a checkpoint per complete game

Who is he talking to ? An extremely casual game mode that is played for fast and fun action.
Deathmatch is a very casual game mode, often used by players to practice their shooting skills before jumping into a competitive match. Like many other games, VALORANT’s Deathmatch mode is all about shooting and not abilities. You will be randomly assigned an agent and you will not have access to their abilities.
Deathmatch pits 12 players in a free-for-all, with the first to kill 40 people or the one with the most kills when the game times out after nine minutes. There is no economy management and you can choose any weapon to use, though most players use Vandals or Ghosts, and can switch weapons after each death if desired.
Killing an enemy will immediately allow you to reload your weapon and the enemy will drop a health pack on their corpse which you can walk over to restore any missing health.
Escalation is another casual 5v5 game mode. Teams will use a series of 12 different weapons, including Sova’s electric darts and Raze’s paintballs, switching weapons as different control points are reached. Like Deathmatch, it’s all shooting and no agent abilities are granted.
To win, you and your team must get kills to advance to the next weapon until you have eliminated all 12 weapons chosen for the match. While the team progresses through the weapons together after getting enough kills, you must get at least one kill with the current weapon to progress, regardless of what your team has accomplished.
Like in Deathmatch, if you kill an enemy, a health pack will drop on their body and you can walk on it to restore their health, shields and ammo.
Duration of the match: 7 to 9 minutes
Daily quests? 50 percent of a checkpoint per complete game

VALORANT’s new game mode is Team Deathmatch. The 5v5 mode takes place on maps specifically designed for Team Deathmatch and consists of killing 100 enemies or the most enemies after the timer runs out.
The game is divided into stages in which you will have the choice between several weapons. You will have access to the abilities of the agents, but they charge over time and your ultimate ability charges by killing enemies or recovering an ultimate orb.
Duration of the match: 10 minutes
Daily quests? 50 percent of a checkpoint per complete game

Who is he talking to ? Casual game mode for groups of people who want to warm up before a competitive match or work on their shooting skills. Also for those who enjoy team shooting matches.
First up is VALORANT’s in-game tournament system. You’ll need a team of five players to participate in this mode. Once you’ve found your teammates, you’ll need to register for the current tournament cycle before the deadline.
The tournaments will last for about a month. Each weekend, a specific map will be chosen for this, which you will be able to see in advance and you will be able to play up to two games per tournament weekend.
You will then play a competitive game of VALORANT. Currently, during Premier overtime, the first team to reach 12 rounds will be given priority overtime, allowing them to choose whether they start on offense or defense during overtime. Winning the match will earn you 100 points while losing the match will earn you 25.
Duration of the match: 30 to 45 minutes and more
