Chinese audio hardware company Fiio is once again going retro with a brand new portable CD player called the DM13.
While it looks similar to the iconic Sony Discman that reigned supreme in the ’80s and ’90s, Fiio’s latest device has upgrades that the Discman never had, including support for wireless headphones.
With Bluetooth connection, it supports AptX, AptX HD, AptX Low Latency and SBC codecs, allowing it to pair with wireless headphones.
It also has a built-in battery that Fiio claims provides around eight hours of playback time – you won’t need to fill your pockets with a set of AA batteries when you head out for the day.
Scheduled for availability from September, the DM13 supports both single-ended 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced outputs for analogue line-out monitoring.
The unit can be connected to a home stereo system. Analogue audio, SPDIF and USB connections are included, and the rechargeable battery can be bypassed when the CD player is in ‘desktop mode’ and connected to a permanent power source.
Fiio’s portable CD player also supports FLAC, WAV, WMA, AAC and MP3 file formats.
The DM13 will initially be available only in a silver finish and priced at around AU$265. Later, four additional colours – red, blue, black and titanium – will also be available.
For retro style lovers, it’s worth noting that Fiio also recently introduced a transparent edition of the CP13 portable cassette player. You can read more about it on ChannelNews here.
