FiiO’s new trend continues with the DM13 portable CD player

FiiO continues to plunder the past with the Discman-style DM13 portable CD player.

Where it is now accepted that vinyl records have made a comeback, the compact disc is not far behind. FiiO has combined this knowledge with the fascination for retro technology we never owned – something we like to call newstalgie.

The DM13 CD player features a 3.5mm unbalanced headphone output and a 4.4mm balanced headphone output, so it should be suitable for a wide range of headphones. A dedicated analogue line output, SPDIF digital output and USB output options allow the unit to be integrated into your existing hi-fi system. You can also plug the DM13 into powered speakers or connect it to the auxiliary input of a portable speaker.

FiiO adds some 21st-century touches with aptX HD Bluetooth connectivity, meaning the player can connect to wireless headphones or speakers. In addition to CDs, the DM13 supports FLAC, WAV, WMA, AAC and MP3 file formats.

The DM13’s built-in battery promises up to eight hours of playback on a single charge. However, if you’re running film discs at home, you can use its dedicated desktop mode, bypassing the internal battery in favour of mains power.

The DM13 will be available in silver from September for £179, with red, blue, titanium and black finishes arriving later this year.

The DM13 will be showcased at this year’s CanJam London event, taking place this weekend at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, London.
