The Specialized Status first appeared in 2021 as a no-frills full-suspension bike designed to deliver maximum fun at minimum cost. Available in two different travel options, the Status 140 and Status 160, these budget trail bikes were effectively budget versions of the Stumpjumper and Enduro.
We tested the Specialized Status 160 last year and loved its supple suspension and hooligan-inspired handling. While it’s not exactly the lightest or liveliest bike in the world, there’s no doubt it offers a solid level of spec in a simple, affordable package.
Looking to capitalize on this success, Specialized is expanding its range for 2025 with the arrival of the all-new Status 2.
Overview of specialized status 2
The Specialized Status 2 will be available in three distinct platforms that all use an alloy frame and mixed wheel setup.
There are the Status 140, Status 170 and Status 170 DH models, the number in the name of which refers to the suspension travel. The DH version goes even further with a 7-speed drivetrain and a RockShox Boxxer double-crown fork.
With a focus on value for money, the Status 2 is sorely lacking in carbon fibre or internal storage. Instead, the Status 2 sticks to the real thing with welded M5 alloy tubing and the classic FSR four-bar suspension design. However, just like the latest Stumpjumper 15, you do get a flip chip at the chainstay pivot that offers high/low positions.
Specialized Status 2 Geometry and Sizing Chart
Another notable addition for the Specialized Status 2 is the arrival of an all-new S0 size. Designed specifically for smaller riders and younger riders, S0 frames are optimized around smaller wheels with a width of 27.5 inches at the front and 26 inches at the rear.
For the rest of the range, you’ll find five frame sizes from S1 to S5. Geometry varies slightly between the Status 140 and Status 170, although they share a similar 63.5-64° head angle, steep 77° seat angle and short 427-437mm chainstays. You can see all the numbers detailed in the size chart below.
Specialized Status 2 Price and Specs
All three Specialized Status 2 models will arrive in Australia this year. Prices will start at AU$4,600 for the S0-sized Status 140 and 170, which feature a slightly different specification with a SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain and Code R brakes.
The standard Status 140 and 170 models will retail for $5,200 AUD. These bikes feature Shimano 1×12 Deore drivetrains, TRP Trail EVO brakes, an X-Fusion dropper post and Specialized Butcher tires.
Finally, there’s the Status 170 DH, which gets a RockShox Boxxer fork and Super Deluxe coil shock, a SRAM GX DH drivetrain and Maven Bronze brakes for AU$6,400.
