If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ve probably read our reviews of Geekom’s mini-PCs, and all the good things we’ve said about them. But the manufacturer’s range, as powerful as it is, is generally limited to what was until recently identified by the acronym “NUC”. Things are about to change, as Geekom is preparing to launch a compact PC, called the Megamini G1, equipped with a dedicated graphics card and a custom liquid cooling system. To top it all off, the design is very exciting (at least at first glance).
So to be precise, The paternity of this new baby does not entirely belong to GeekomIt was back in February, at this year’s MWC, that a Chinese company called Tecno showed off a small desktop computer that supported up to an Intel Core i9-13900H and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics cards.
Geekom MEGAMINI G1: small but solid (and scalable?)
We learned this week that Geekom plans to present a version of this small PC under the TECNO x GEEKOM brand at the IFA show in Berlin in September. The visuals revealed show several things:
- The proposed product seems to be an association between Geekom and Tecno
- The design has evolved slightly, as has the size: the Tecno prototype from February had dimensions of 249 x 132 x 132 mm, while Geekom now reports 255 x 150 x 150 mm for a volume of 6 liters.
- No pricing has been announced yet, but details and availability could be revealed at IFA in September.
On the technical specifications side, we know that the maximum supported CPU is an i9-13900H (a mobile version, therefore) and that the dedicated GPU seems to be limited to an RTX 4060 in ITX format (which is already remarkable). The Geekom / Tecno partnership, still vague for the moment, however opens the door to other motherboards, in particular AMD.
The motherboard featured here features two SODIMM slots, supporting a total of 64GB of DDR5-5200 memory, and two M.2 2280 slots for PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage. Connectivity Features:
- 1 x OCuLink
- 1 x Thunderbolt
- 2 x HDMI 2.0
- 1 x USB Type-C
- 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A ports
- 2 x USB 3.1 Ge 1 Type-A
- 1 x USB 3.0 Type-A
- 1 x USB 2.0 Type A
- 1 x 2.5 GbE Ethernet port
- 1 x 3.5mm audio jack
- 1 x SD Card Reader
As for the cooling and dissipation features of the components, the officially released details are as follows:
- 6888mm² Pure Copper Heat Sink
- Two “industrial quality” fans: one 120 x 120 mm and one 70 x 70 mm
- “Ultra Quiet High Flow Pump” with 360ml coolant capacity, 2.0LPM maximum flow rate for up to 8 circulations per minute and noise levels below 26dB.
Geekom also published some benchmarks:
In short, we can’t wait to find out more about this new toy.
