Last week, Google decided to get ahead of the leaks and officially unveiled images of the upcoming Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Oddly, the company has yet to officially reveal the Pixel 9 or Pixel 9 Pro XL, two phones that are also expected to launch at the Made by Google event on August 13.
Of course, beyond the size, we shouldn’t expect too many outward differences between the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. That said, a previous TikTok leak showed the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL that highlighted a few odd differences. These included a matte back for the XL version but a glossier back cover on the Pixel 9. And the sides were also opposites, with the XL featuring smooth, glossy sides while the Pixel 9 had matte sides.
Latest leaked images shared by GSMArena doesn’t clarify things either. We can see the claimed pink color that Pixel 9 owners can choose, a common thread in Pixel 9 leaks. The latest leak comes from User X Sudhanshu Ambhore.
It’s not clear from the pictures whether the back covers will be matte or smooth and glossy.
The only thing we can confirm from the new images is that the Pixel 9 is expected to have one fewer camera than the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL. So expect the Pixel 9 Pro XL to sport a telephoto zoom lens. You can see the differences in the images, with the Pixel 9’s camera array appearing thicker despite having less hardware compared to the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s seemingly slimmed-down array.
Once again we can see the revamped camera island, which ditches the edge-to-edge bar format for a more pill-like shape.
This follows another leak that reportedly showed a number of internal specs for the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
These include 16GB of RAM in the 256GB storage capacity variant. It also revealed a more powerful modem in Samsung’s Exynos 5400 modem. It is said to be faster than the 5300 modem found in the Pixel 8 series.
