It looks like Helldivers 2 Players will soon be able to get their hands on some classic weapons from the first game, and while we already have an idea of what that might be, some suspect that Galactic Game Master Joel might be playing a trick on us and finally introducing these anti-tank mines to the game.
The current major order for Helldivers 2 is relatively simple: the Automata are attempting to retake the planet X-45, and we must keep it under Super Earth’s control for the next four days. However, the planet is home to an advanced weapons lab dating back to the First Galactic War (i.e. the events of Helldivers 1), and a new strategic update message has hinted that with the progress we’ve made, we might be getting a reward that looks familiar.
“The first layer of rubble covering the Advanced Weapons Lab on X-45 has been cleared,” the update states. “Early reports indicate that the facility remains largely intact. It is possible that there is even a cache of still-functional weapons from the First Galactic War within the lab. Further excavation work is underway.”
Sounds promising, doesn’t it? It’s worth noting that this comes just over two weeks after PlayStation appears to have leaked a screenshot of an unreleased quadruple missile launcher in an email sent to some players, which looked a lot like the MLS-4X Commando missile launcher from the first game. The timing would certainly be pretty good if that ended up being the reward here, but that’s obviously unconfirmed at this point.
Alternatively, as some democracy-loving players on Reddit have pointed out, the infamous anti-tank mines could be a real option here. The Helldivers 2 community keeps passing these things up – while there have been multiple opportunities to unlock them, they’ve never quite been successful. More recently, we chose to save the children of Super Citizen Anne Hospital for the feel-good reward of doing the right thing rather than taking the mines, but we also left them out before in favor of the RL-77 Airburst rocket launcherand completely lost them once due to another failed major order.
Obviously these aren’t the most popular rewards, but given that they were featured in Helldivers 1 as an upgrade to the dropped landmines, it would make perfect sense for them to be here, giving Joel “the biggest opportunity to troll the community.” according to Reddit“Joel, sitting on his throne of skulls, laughs,” one user said. writingimagining the scene that would unfold.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see if we can actually win the major order. It looks very promising at the moment, but that could all change. Either way, something tells me the community would be more excited about this new missile launcher or literally anything other than these poor mines, so hopefully we won’t be disappointed (although that would be pretty funny).
Helldivers 2 features a selection of excellent fleet upgrades, including one that will reduce the cooldown of all Stratagems through the power of paid bathroom breaks..
