Evo 2024 kicks off on Friday, July 19, kicking off a weekend filled with one of the most intense fighting game competitions in the world. This year, over 10,000 players will compete across a multitude of games, making it the biggest Evo ever seen while setting the record for the largest esports tournament.
Evo has grown bigger and bigger, with participation boosted by the release of new versions of the tournament’s most popular games. Street Fighter 6 made its Evo debut last year and welcomed the largest number of participants in the franchise’s history. This year, both Mortal Kombat 1 And Tekken 8 will make their debut appearances at Evo. In addition to these heavyweights, other games being showcased at Evo 2024 include Guilty Gear strives, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Street Fighter III: 3rd Assault, The King of Fighters XVAnd Under the Night In-Birth II Sys: Céles. (Listen… I don’t get it either, but it’s an anime fighting game, and those do excellent watching.)
Here is a list of all the games presented and their number of participants.
The competition begins at 10:00 AM PT/1:00 PM ET on all seven Evo Twitch channels. Some games like The King of Fighters XV And Mortal Kombat 1 will have their grand finale on Saturday, July 20, while the biggest tournaments like Street Fighter 6 And Tekken 8 will end on Sunday. You can check the full schedule of events here.
In addition to the flagship games, Evo 2024 will also host community tournaments featuring games that are well-loved but don’t necessarily have the popularity of the big ones like street fighter And TekkenThere are over 17 tournaments with games like The Skull Girls, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Soul Caliber VIAnd Killer InstinctWhile these games aren’t broadcast on the main Evo channels, you can check out the Community Showcase viewing guide here to see when and where to watch these tournaments.
There’s never been a better time to be a fighting game fan. The crowds at events like Evo are big and loud, and the action is easy to understand—something other esports love. League of Legends And Overwatch 2 I can’t argue with that. Even if you’re not a huge fan of fighting games or esports in general, Evo is still one of the most entertaining events to watch.
