We think the Celestron NexStar 6SE is a great all-around telescope. It can be used by beginners who want to jump right into skygazing (especially with Celestron’s comprehensive user manuals) or by more experienced astronomers with a more in-depth knowledge of the night sky. The latter will be able to get more out of the scope, especially those who have a selection of eyepieces and filters to experiment with.
The Celestron NexStar 6SE offers impressive specifications to meet the needs of astronomers of all experience levels. Its 150mm aperture allows a significant amount of light to pass through the lens, resulting in clear views of celestial objects. The 1499mm focal length allows astronomers to focus on desired targets better than telescopes with a shorter focal length. Shorter focal lengths are better suited for viewing a larger expanse of sky at one time.
At 9.5kg, this scope is heavy, so you won’t want to carry it around too often. However, thanks to its catadioptric design, it’s much easier to transport than many other telescopes in this price range. If you do want to carry it around often, you can rest assured that it’s built to a high standard, and it’s not super flimsy.
The SkyAlign technology will get you up and running quickly, and the 6SE’s GoTo tracking system is excellent. It lets you quickly find and orient yourself to any of the 40,000+ celestial objects in the database, taking the frustration out of skygazing. The only frustration you might have is that the batteries tend to drain pretty quickly, so you’ll need to top them up.

Price history: We first saw this scope today at a bargain price of $879.99. That deal didn’t last long, though. $979 is still a great price, but be aware that it could drop again.
Price comparison: Amazon: $979.99 | Adorama: $1099
Consensus of opinions: Much like our review, most online reviews of the Celestron NexStar 6E are positive. Many users say that it is a great scope for beginners who don’t necessarily want to learn how to manually navigate the night sky.
✅ Buy it if: You are a beginner who wants to get started quickly, but also happy to learn the basics to get the most out of this impressive instrument.
❌ Do not buy it if: You are not sure if this is a long-term hobby. Ultimately, despite the generous price reduction, this kit is still expensive. There are cheaper alternatives here in our guide to the best telescopes for beginners. We can recommend the Inspire 100AZ which is currently available on sale on Amazon for $279.63.
