The next phase of the Safer Cities: Her Way initiative, funded by Transport NSW, will begin in the CBD today.
As part of Council’s commitment to making the CBD a safer and more vibrant place to work, visit and connect, Council will upgrade the pedestrian pathway at 56 Woodlark Street, which connects Woodlark Street and the Clyde Campbell car park.
The alleyway was identified through community consultation as an area of safety concern, making it a priority site for the project.
The upcoming closure will allow for the asphalt to be resurfaced, creating a safer, smoother surface that reduces the risk of trips and falls. This upgrade will also improve accessibility for people with mobility issues, ensuring everyone can use the trail comfortably.
What to expect:
- Temporary closure of public roads: Monday, July 15, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. (weather permitting).
- Private parking lot closure: The rear parking lot at 40 Woodlark Street will also be closed for asphalt work.
Notifications have been sent to business owners and residents. During this time, pedestrian access to the site will not be possible. However, alternative routes are available via the lane adjacent to the Cedar and Lime store or ANZ Bank.
This is the start of the implementation of these security improvements and in the coming weeks the Council will proceed with the installation of:
- Video surveillance
- Catenary lighting
- Convex mirrors
- Safety terminals
The Council says these measures will further improve the safety and ease of use of this pedestrian path.
