Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD with Hub Launches on Kickstarter

Lexar prepares to launch a Kickstarter Campaign for their Lexar Professional Go Portable SSD with Hub. It’s universally compatible but was designed for the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, allowing you to record Apple 4K ProRes video externally. It’s ultra-compact and can store up to 2TB, so let’s take a closer look at this portable SSD!

Lexar is well-known for its data storage and memory solutions, like its Lexar CFexpress 4.0 Type B Diamond memory card. With the Go Portable, they’ve really hit on something: an ultra-compact SSD that attaches to your phone or camera with an included hub that features four Type-C ports, providing both storage and connectivity solutions in a single enclosure.

So how small is it…

It turns out that the kit is very small. The kit is incredibly compact, measuring just 6.88 x 4.35 x 0.81 cm (2.71 x 1.71 x 0.32 inches), while the portable SSD itself measures just 4.35 x 2.48 x 0.81 cm (1.71 x 0.98 x 0.32 inches). This means that the overall width of the kit is slightly narrower than that of an iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Additionally, the thickness of the SSD is only 8.25 mm / 0.32 inches, which is close to that of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the entire kit weighs only about 35.83 g / 0.079 lb, so its design should make it easy to attach to a phone and should not interfere with portable recording. Plus, it offers up to 2 TB of space.

The Hub

The hub offers a variety of connectivity options, including four Type-C ports, allowing connections for a portable SSD, microphones, power banks, and more. One port supports PD charging up to 30W and offers a transfer speed of 10Gbps. The versatility offered by this hub will not only allow you to record Apple 4K ProRes videos externally, but also to handle audio and charging needs simultaneously.

The Go Portable features a high-speed USB 3.2 Gen2 interface that delivers read speeds of up to 1050MB/s and write speeds of up to 1000MB/s. The device comes with a protective silicone case, has an IP65 dust and water resistance rating, and can withstand drops from one meter, according to the company.
