Mad Mike’s Triple-Rotor McLaren P1 Is The Craziest Drift Car Yet

Mike Whiddett, the madman to some of the the coolest cars on the market — especially his derivative stable. Earlier this year, Whiddett began his the most audacious project to date: Dressing a McLaren 650S GT3 with a P1 GTR body, putting a triple rotor engine in the rear and setting it aside at Goodwood.

The MadMac, as it is called, was created in just over three months of work leading to This year’s Goodwood Festival. Mad Mike and his team spent 100 days combining the 650S GT3 chassis and P1 GTR body with a custom widebody kit and Whiddett’s favorite rotary engine.

The car, as promised, managed to climb the hill at Goodwood. It may not have been as sideways as expected. Ryan Tuerck’s Toyota Stoutbut that upward-firing exhaust sounded truly spectacular as it tore up Lord March’s famous driveway.

The engine hooked up to this exhaust is really interesting. Whiddett loves rotary engines, which he uses in everything from his Formula Drifts to his Pikes Peak race car, and this one claims 944 horsepower, which is more than enough to slide the McLarens around.

Now that the MadMac is finished, it’s anyone’s guess what Whiddett will build next. A pickup, like the Stout? A Ferrari, like Fiorella by Federico Sceriffo? Nobody knows what chassis Mad Mike will choose next, but one thing is safe to assume: it will be rotary-powered.
