The Surveyor General of Victoria (SGV) has announced that the electronic distance measurement (EDM) calibration base at Mitcham in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs has reopened.

EDM calibration baselines provide surveyors with a means to compare survey instruments to a legally traceable standard for length, verify measurement accuracy and meet regulatory requirements.

THE Mitcham Baseline was rebuilt as part of Melbourne Water’s M22-M46 water main renewal from Mitcham to Syndal. It comprises eight deep-bed reinforced concrete piers along the same 593m section of the Forest Hill Linear Reserve.

A new external cabinet has been installed at Pillar 1 to hold auxiliary equipment (e.g. umbrellas, atmospheric sensors and pillar cap key).

In announcing the reopening, SGV thanked and acknowledged Melbourne Water, John Holland Group and Asset Survey Solutions, who constructed the base piers to meet precise design specifications.

SGV also thanked and acknowledged the Nacha Moore Chartered Surveyors who hosted the Mitcham Core Ancillary Equipment and visiting surveyors over the past ten years.

More information on Victoria’s official equipment calibration requirements and details on how to book a baseline can be found on the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning website. Equipment Calibration Services Page.
