Seven new classic NES games are now available via Nintendo Switch Online, including: Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Cobra Triangle, And Solar JetmanThis latest batch significantly expands the subscription service’s NES game offerings – and while not all of the titles on the list are well-known, they represent a notable era for Nintendo.
The inclusion of Donkey Kong Jr. Math is particularly well-crafted. This game is a rare example of an early “edutainment” title, as it adapts the classic Donkey Kong gameplay in an educational format. was a critical and commercial failure, and has been called one of the worst NES games, but regardless, it’s an important game.
Although this attempt to incorporate edutainment-type game mechanics failed, later attempts by Nintendo and other companies were much more successful. By the 1990s, edutainment games were very popular and more widespread among younger audiences.

Nintendo’s latest NES offerings also feature a range of other genres and themes. There are golf games, racing combat games, speedboat simulations and much more.
New Nintendo Switch Online Games – July 2024
Here’s the full list of new NES games now available via Nintendo Switch Online:
- Golf – “This 1990s classic gives you 36 holes of realistic golf action, with hazards that change every time you play (so you’ll have to plan a strategy other than just ‘walk away’).”
- Urban Champion – “Nintendo’s first 2D fighting game from 1986, Urban Champion is a bare-knuckle showdown between fighters looking to earn the rank of Champion – and send their opponent crashing into the nearest manhole in the process.
- Donkey Kong Jr. Math – “Navigate through vines and platforms to solve math puzzles, which require you to do everything from collecting numbers to entering appropriate symbols that add, subtract, multiply, and divide them as needed to solve each problem.”
- Mach Pilot – “Mach Pilot is a vehicular combat racing game in which players pilot their heavily armed Quadrunner across the ruined wasteland of Earth in the year 2112.
- The Mystery of Atlantis – “The Mystery of Atlantis is a side-scrolling adventure in which players take on the role of Wyn, an amateur explorer determined to uncover the secrets of a lost civilization and rescue his captive master from the forces of the evil Emperor Zavyra.
- Solar Jetman – “Play as Jetman and embark on a perilous quest to recover the lost pieces of the Golden Warpship, a near-mythical vessel capable of traveling through the stars. This early 90s multi-directional shooter puts you in the cockpit of Jetman’s Jetpod as you explore 12 menacing alien worlds, each with their own gravity level.”
- Cobra Triangle – “Put your skills and reflexes to the test at the helm of a Cobra-class speedboat in this 1989 vehicle-based action game for the original NES. In this part boat racer, part vehicular combat, you’ll face high-speed challenges including enemy ships with cannons, endangered swimmers, deadly sea monsters, dangerous whirlpools, and ticking time bombs.”
All seven games are now available to play Nintendo Switch Online Subscribers.
