Happy Friday, friends! The weekend is just around the corner. It will be the second day of an extra-long weekend for Americans who chose to take the day off after the 4th of July. That’s the way to do it.
Today The New York Times Connections clues and answers come right away.
How to play Connections
In ConnectionsYou are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to sort them into four groups of four by determining the connections between them. The groups could be things like horror movie franchises, a type of verb, or rappers.
There is only one solution for each puzzle, and you will need to watch out for words that might belong to multiple categories. You can mix the words together to perhaps help you see the connections between them.
Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green are in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest to deduce. The purple group often involves wordplay, so keep that in mind.
Select four words that you think go together and hit Submit. If you make a guess and get it wrong, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to getting a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you only have one word left to guess, but you’ll still have to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with a few tips, and if you’re really struggling, Connections answers.

Two perfect games in a row means I’m now on four wins in a row.
I found this game very entertaining. Of course, the isolated letters in the middle immediately caught my attention, while there were a few obvious red herrings (like the YEN and EURO combination).
MONEYPENNY was an obvious entry point into the blue group, as was BUBBLEGUM for the purple group. The other two groups required a bit more thought until I realized the connection between FORTUNE and NATURE. That left me with the yellows for the win, but I had never heard of YEN in this context.

PS Power pop is a great and vast genre, even though I mainly consider it to be catchy rock music. Weezer is one of its best representatives and even though my favorite song will forever be “Say It Ain’t So”, I can’t not choose this one:
