NYT Connections Today (Game #399) – Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game, #399, are…
- YELLOW: THIN PROJECTIONS POINT, TOOTH, POINT
- GREEN: CONDITIONS FOR COLLECTIBLES GOOD, COMPLETE, PERFECT, PERFECT
- BLUE: PROFESSION COMPANY, DOMAIN, LINE, TRADE
- PURPLE: WORDS BEFORE “NUTS” BRAZIL, BUTTER, PASTE, PINE
- My ranking: Easy
- My score: Perfect
It’s a very rare day that I solve the purple group – and it’s even rarer when I solve it before everyone else. But then again, it’s not often that it’s as simple as today’s NUT-based connection. As soon as I saw BRAZIL and PINE in the same puzzle, I knew there was a good chance they were related, and when I also noticed DOUGH and BUTTER, I was sold.
Unsurprisingly, the other three groups were even easier, and for once I can honestly say that I would have gotten the last one (which for me was blue, “profession”) even if it hadn’t been by default.
How was your day? Send me an email to let me know.

- PURPLE: SILENT “T” CASTLE, HUSTLE, LISTEN, WITCH
What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of the many increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that share something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a bit harder, blue is often quite hard, and purple is usually very hard.
The good thing is that you don’t need to solve the last problem, because you can answer it by process of elimination. Plus, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you some wiggle room.
It’s a bit more complex than Wordle, though, and the game can trick you a lot. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that might obscure the answers.
It is playable for free via the NYT Games Site on computer or mobile.
