The Google Pixel 9 series is fast approaching its debut, and as is tradition, the leak faucet continues to go from a drip to a steady stream. Today, we have a first look at the Pixel 9 Pro XL alongside the Pixel 8 Pro it will replace next month, showcasing the drastic design changes and size.
In a video posted by TikTok user @pixo_unpacking (the source of several recent Pixel 9 leaks), we can see the Pixel 9 Pro XL compared to the Pixel 8 Pro from virtually every angle. The video was also published on YouTube.
Both phones are shown with their similar matte black finishes and glossy side rails, but that’s where the similarities largely end. Much like a previous comparison from the same source between the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9, there are plenty of striking design changes.
That includes the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s noticeably more rounded corners, a design cue we first saw on the Pixel 8a earlier this year. The side rails are also flat, more in line with Apple’s iPhone design language than the Pixels we’ve known for years. Then there’s the new camera bar design. It finally has a matte finish, but no longer stops all the way to the edges of the phone, but tapers off and rounds off before meeting either edge.
The two phones are also touted as being nearly identical in terms of size. Another comparison published on YouTube The Pixel 9 Pro XL vs. Pixel 3 XL comparison suggested that the new device would be larger than the current Pixel 8 Pro, but from this video, it’s easy to see that that’s (thankfully) not the case. The Pixel 3 XL is simply a lot smaller than we all remember!
Google is expected to launch the Pixel 9 Pro XL alongside the rest of the series on August 13, just a few weeks away.
