Pokémon Go Dawn of a New Discovery Radar Setting Choose a Path Quest

The dawn of a new discovery” grant everything Pokémon Go players a Cosmog during Day 2 of the global Go Fest 2024.

Free for all players with or without a Go Fest ticket, it grants you a free Cosmog and Cosmog Candy to help you unlock a Necrozma Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings.

For those with a Go Fest ticket, completing this quest then unlocks the exclusive quest “Dusk Falls”, which then rewards an encounter with one of Cosmog’s evolutions and enough Solar or Lunar Fusion Energy to fuse your chosen Legendary with Necrozma.

A note before we begin: keep in mind that you will need to complete a raid during the final stage, so you may want to hold onto your daily pass until you arrive if you plan on completing the quest during the event.

Steps of the special research quest “Dawn of a New Discovery”

All players who open the game on Sunday, July 14 between 10am and 6pm will receive this quest. This quest is also required for ticket holders in order to unlock the next quest, “Dusk Sets In.”

“The Dawn of a New Discovery” Stage 1 of 3

  • Spin 3 PokéStops or Gyms (20 Poké Balls)
  • Catch 10 Pokémon (3 Nanab Berries)
  • Complete 2 Field Research Tasks (100 XP)

After this point, you will have to choose between Emolga, Crabrawler or Ducklett. The stages and rewards are mostly the same across all paths, with the exception of one stage, which will reward you with the Pokémon of your choice if you catch seven of them. Your radar will also prioritize the Pokémon you choose. You can read more about this choice in the next section of this guide.

“The Dawn of a New Discovery” stage 2 of 3

  • Catch 7 Emolga, Crabrawler or Ducklett (Encounter with Emolga, Crabrawler or Ducklett)
  • Recharge Pokémon 8 times (20 Poké Balls)
  • Evolve 9 Pokémon (3 Pinap Berries)

Awards: 1 Silver Pinap Berry, encounter with Cosmog, 1 Razz Berry

“The Dawn of a New Discovery” stage 3 of 3

  • Fight in a raid (3 Super Potions)
  • Gain 2,000 XP (max 3 revives)

Once the above is done, Go Fest Global ticket holders can then begin “The Dusk Settles”.

“Radar Tuning” Chooses an Outcome Path: Should You Choose Emolga, Crabrawler, or Ducklett?

After the first stage, you have the choice of setting your radar to Emolga, Crabralwer and Ducklett.

This choice results in two things:

  1. The next quest objective will have you catch seven of your chosen Pokémon—Emolga, Crabrawler, or Ducklett—and reward you with an encounter with your choice.
  2. Your Radar, also known as the Pokémon list in the Nearby window, accessible by tapping the box in the bottom right corner of the map screen, will promote your chosen Pokémon to help you find it faster.

While this won’t result in any additional spawns, your choice will temporarily help you find more of this Pokémon through the Nearby feature, and will also grant you an additional unique encounter as part of your rewards.

As for what you should choose, it should be based on what you want more of, especially if you want a shiny version of that Pokémon. To clarify, the chances of shiny will not increase as part of this research – but simply by encountering more of this Pokémon, you have a higher chance of encountering a shiny as a result.

If you’re wondering why Emolga, Crabrawler, and Ducklett are the choices here, they’re all Shiny Pokédexes recently added as part of the Go Fest 2024 in-person events earlier this year, so they’ll be getting more of a spotlight in the global portion for those looking to expand their Shiny Pokédex.

Looking for more things to do during Go Fest 2024? Don’t forget to get plenty of Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy for Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma (which you can do effectively with powerful Necrozma counterattacks) and complete the Marshadow Research “A Shadowy Caper.”
