Pre-orders for Samsung’s 6th-generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, began on July 10 in India and now, a week later, they are already shaping up to be the most popular generation yet.
Pre-orders for both models are up 40% over their predecessors. There’s still a week of pre-orders left before sales begin, and we’ll likely have to wait for the quarterly report to get more detailed numbers on Z series sales. This of course depends on how the Z phones perform in other regions, but they could surpass Samsung’s modest target of a 10% increase in sales.
The Z Fold6 starts at ₹165,000 (12/256GB) and the Z Flip6 starts at ₹110,000 (12/256GB). Both will launch on July 26. If you pre-order one, you can get ₹8,000 cashback on HDFC Bank cards or an upgrade bonus of ₹8,000 (this goes up to ₹15,000 for existing owners of a Samsung flagship).
The Z foldable smartphones aren’t cheap, but they’re built to last: Samsung promises 7 years of software support. Plus, if you pre-order, you’ll get Galaxy Z Assurance, which offers two screen/part replacements for just ₹1,000 (usually, you get one screen replacement).
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 units sold in India are manufactured locally at Samsung’s Noida plant.
“We are delighted with the consumer response to our new foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 in India. The 1.4x growth in pre-orders for the new foldable smartphones shows that Indian consumers are among the fastest adopters of new technologies. Our new foldable smartphones, now in their sixth generation, usher in the next chapter of Galaxy Al and elevate the user experience to new heights, enabling a range of unique mobile experiences across communications, productivity and creativity. The success of Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 will help us cement our leadership in the premium segment in India,” said Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President, MX Business, Samsung India.
