Let’s start with the Galaxy Z series refreshedwhich Samsung says is thinner, lighter, and even more durable than before thanks to an Armor Aluminum frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back of the devices. The new Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 also use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that the company previously used on some versions of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and some versions of the Galaxy S24 and S24+.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip6
The Galaxy Z Fold6 still sports a 7.6-inch AMOLED display with a slightly higher resolution of 2160×1856 and a 120Hz refresh rate, which can now deliver up to 2,600 nits of brightness. The cover display is a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, also with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
Despite its thinner frame (12.1mm when folded), the Galaxy Z Fold6 features an improved cooling system with a 1.6x larger vapor chamber. The new foldable phone comes with 12GB of memory, up to 1TB of storage, and a 4,400mAh battery that can be charged up to 50% in about 30 minutes. The camera system includes a 10MP cover camera, a 4MP camera under the main display, and a triple rear camera system with a 12MP ultrawide sensor, a 50MP wide-angle camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera.
The Z Flip6, however, sports 6.7-inch and 3.4-inch AMOLED displays, though the cover display only has a 60Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the flip phone has the same 12GB of memory, though storage is capped at 512GB. It also has a larger 4,000mAh battery, as well as an all-new vapor chamber. Camera-wise, there’s a 10MP front-facing camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP wide-angle sensor.
With its new Galaxy Z series, Samsung is promising new AI features that make better use of its foldable displays. While Samsung is developing its own AI experiences within apps like Samsung Notes and Samsung Keyboard, the company is also leaning heavily on Google’s Gemini AI. The latest Google Gemini app for Android is now optimized for Samsung’s latest foldable phones, with the Gemini overlay now accessible in the multi-window split screen.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 will start at $1,899 and $1,099, respectively, and will begin shipping on July 24. Samsung is also promising seven years of software updates for its latest foldable phones.
