It’s been five years since Samsung unveiled its original, flawed and much-derided Galaxy Z Fold. Five years later, the company is getting its revenge with the sixth iteration of what has proven to be a successful product line. Samsung is particularly boasting about the design features of the Fold6 and Flip6 models. This is an example of where persistence paid off.
Samsung deserved credit for making the first Fold model in 2019. However, the first version was unanimously declared a disaster before it even hit the market.
There were bumps and bulges under the display, the screen would flicker or shut off, the Fold’s hinge was less sturdy than expected, and testers thought they could remove the screen protector, thinking it was a screen protector. In fact, it was part of the work.
AT&T and Best Buy canceled pre-orders in the US, and Samsung had to delay its release by several months. Yet the Korean manufacturer went on to release not only the first version, but five more versions after that.

In 2024, Samsung promotes Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 The device’s floating design makes the display appear to float when viewed from the side. “When folded, the bold line running along the side of the devices not only accentuates their sleek, linear shape, but also makes them easier to open, improving overall usability,” Samsung explains.
According to the company, the reduced length and increased width of the protective screen provide a better appearance. “The corners on the right side of the device now mirror the shape of those on the left side, resulting in an almost symmetrical silhouette when folded.”
