Samsung finally has a launch date for its next-gen foldable smartphone lineup: July 10 at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Summer 2024 event. But if you’re already set on getting the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 or Galaxy Z Fold 6, you have a small window to score some big savings — and I’m talking up to $1,500. big.
As usual, you can find a pre-order registration offer on Samsung’s website leading up to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 release date. The company opened reservations last week, which automatically come with a $50 credit, along with the catchy tagline that interested buyers could save up to $1,500. It almost sounds too good to be true, especially since the announcement was light on details. But now Samsung has explained exactly how this offer works, so those looking to upgrade their phone have a clearer idea of what kind of savings we’re talking about here.
We haven’t yet received any official news on the pricing of the Galaxy Z Fold series this year. However, early leaks suggest that we could see a $100 price increase for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 over its predecessor. That would put the starting price at $1,899, while the 512GB and 1TB versions would cost $2,019 and $2,259, respectively. We’ll have to wait until July 10 to find out more.
Here’s what you save when you trade in a Galaxy Z Fold 6
In a email shared with some customersSamsung says you can get up to $1,200 off with an eligible trade-in for pre-ordering the Galaxy Z Fold 6. While it doesn’t say which phones are eligible for this surprising trade-in value, we’re betting the last-gen Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra are the most likely candidates. We’d be surprised to see other phones in Samsung’s lineup fetch such a high price.
What about the remaining $300 of the initial $1,500? Well, there’s the $50 credit mentioned above just for making the reservation. There’s no obligation if you make a reservation and don’t end up pre-ordering a device, plus you’re signed up for a $5,000 Contest, Whatever.
Samsung is also bringing back its double storage deal, which means that no matter which model you buy, you’ll get twice the storage at no extra cost. Samsung estimates that this deal represents a savings of $240, which seems a bit of a stretch. On the best Android phones, you can expect an increase from 256GB to 512GB of storage for a cost of around $100 or $150 at most.
Samsung is also relaunching another offer: a free year of Samsung Care Plus, worth up to $156. With Samsung’s version of Apple Care, you get unlimited repairs, same-day replacement of cracked screens for $29, theft and loss coverage, 24/7 access to expert support, and more.
Adding it all up, the total savings comes to over $1,600, which is $100 more than Samsung’s initial figure, but in reality, most of that value comes from the added benefits. The only real cost reduced from the foldable’s price will come from the trade-in value and reserve credit. Still, that means more money in your pocket down the road.
