The Alienware Aurora R16 is powered by an Intel Core i9-14900F processor, a GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16GB GPU, 32GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, and a 1TB M.2 SSD. The 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900F Raptor Lake Refresh processor has a maximum clock speed of 5.8GHz with 24 cores, 32 threads, and 36MB cache. This is Intel’s latest i9 chip and it boasts a higher clock speed, more cores, more threads, and more cache than the 13th Gen i9-13900 processor. The “F” in 14900F simply means that the chip does not have an integrated graphics card (iGPU). This won’t matter if you have a discrete GPU, which in this case is the RTX 4080 SUPER.
The new GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is 5-10% faster in performance than its predecessor thanks to its higher base clock speed, higher CUDA core count, and higher memory bandwidth. It still has a long way to go to compete with the $1,600 RTX 4090 GPU, but this card gives you more than enough power to handle any game in 4K at high frame rates, even at max settings and ray tracing enabled. Check out our RTX 4080 SUPER review for benchmark tests and a deeper look at its improvements over the RTX 4080.
The R16 is the latest Alienware Aurora gaming desktop. The R16 chassis is 40% smaller in volume than previous iterations. It features a simple but proven airflow design; air is drawn in through side intake vents above the GPU area as well as a 120mm rear fan that draws air in and a generously sized 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler exhausts air out the top. An added benefit is that the GPU is supplied with cool air from the outside instead of recirculating hot air internally.
Why Choose a Dell or Alienware Gaming PC?
The Alienware Aurora R16 was one of our picks for the best pre-built gaming PCs of 2024. Not everyone is a DIYer, and these days, pre-built gaming PCs aren’t much more expensive than building your own. In fact, depending on the demand for certain components like the GPU, it can even be cheaper. Alienware gaming laptops and desktops offer an impressive range of options, all built into a custom chassis that’s both beautiful to look at and comfortable to wear. The latest Alienware gaming PCs have significantly improved their cooling performance, especially when paired with a liquid cooling solution. Alienware gaming laptops in recent years have been redesigned to be thinner and lighter while still packing the same immense power under the hood. Consistent build quality, available inventory, frequent sales, and solid customer service are the main reasons Dell tops our buying list.
