Director Torsten Hoffmann will premiere a documentary, Fortitude – Forging the Trillion Dollar Space Economy, in Washington, DC on July 16, 2024. Hoffmann says his latest feature, made with support from Screen Australia, is a “must-see for anyone interested in how technology is shaping the future.”
The documentary explores the rise of a new private space era, the often overlooked reliance of the public and corporations on satellites, and highlights remarkable female engineers and scientists working in the industry. It also examines the economic viability of some major space exploration projects and the bravado of billionaires.
In the documentary, Hoffman discusses the emerging space industry with leaders and policymakers from several national space agencies, United Nations astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, leading venture capitalists and nonprofits such as Space for Humanity and the Secure World Foundation, and major commercial names such as Northrop Grumman, Rocket Lab, Viasat, Voyager Space, Firefly Aerospace, Planet, Exolaunch, Astroscale, CONTEC and Spire Global.
“One of the main reasons we are making this documentary is to inspire a new generation to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said executive producer Dylan Taylor, who is also an early investor in space startups and CEO of Voyager Space. “The exponential global growth of the industry means there will be more opportunities than ever to be a part of this sector, regardless of your background.”
“After the premiere, we want to bring Fortitude to audiences around the world and are currently preparing various conferences, festivals, museums and universities for a global tour of film events,” Hoffman said.
The documentary will be available on Apple TV the same day as the premiere in Washington. Production partners include Screen Australia, Multiverse Media, Spacewatch Global, PRORES GmbH and Morgan Brook Films.
