Sony extends Concord beta by one day

Sony has extended early access to the Concord beta by one day.

The early access beta, which Sony had opened to all PlayStation Plus subscribers, was supposed to end on July 14. It now runs until Monday, July 15 at 12:00 PM PDT, 9:00 PM CEST, 4:00 AM JST. The open beta is still scheduled to run from July 18 to 21, unless Sony decides to extend it as well.

Players jumped into the Concord Early Access beta this weekend, and it seems to have been well-received by PlayStation 5 players. The early access beta is also available on PC via Steam, only for those who pre-ordered the game. The beta saw a peak of 1,124 concurrent players three days ago. At the time of publishing, 150 people were playing the Concord beta on Steam.

Those aren’t great numbers for Firewalk’s 5v5 multiplayer shooter on Valve’s platform, but this weekend, when the beta truly opens to everyone on PS5 and PC, we’ll have a clearer idea of the interest.

During the beta, all 16 launch Freegunners (player characters) are unlocked and can be played and customized. Here’s what you can play during the Concord Early Access weekend:

  • Four cards: Freewater, Star Chamber, Water Hazard, Shock Risk
  • Three modes: Cargo Run, Conflict Point, Trophy Hunt
  • The 16 Freegunners

This weekend’s Open Beta includes all Early Access content as well as the new Bone Mines map and Area Control mode. It’s worth noting that Early Access and Open Beta progress carry over from one weekend to the next, but progress from either beta will not carry over to the official launch on August 23.

As for rewards, you get the Frog weapon charm (Frog stands for “From Orbit to Ground” and is the name of the Northstar’s landing ship), a Star Flare icon, and a calling card for participating.

Last month, Sony said the Concord’s $39.99 price tag “delivers a complete experience.” After Concord’s controversial reveal at Sony State of Play Presentation Back in May, some wondered whether the live-action shooter would be released as a free-to-play game. Confirming that Concord will launch in both physical and digital standard editions for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99, Pam Piscitello, director of marketing and operations at developer Firewalk, said in a post on the site PlayStation Blog This full experience includes all 16 playable characters, 12 maps set across different worlds, and six team-based game modes. It will be expanded shortly after launch with regular post-launch updates for all players at no additional cost, Piscitello added.
