Thank your own personal deity, perhaps the Ancient Beast— it’s Friday! Even better, it’s the start of a school holiday period, which means you’re going to need a ton of cheap games to keep you (or your kids) busy for hours. Steam Summer Sale The picks should do that pretty well, and I’m always on the lookout for discounted products on Amazon/digital stores that are worth buying. So stay tuned, stay safe, save often, and see you Monday!
In retro news, I’m celebrating the 17th anniversary of Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, one of the most surprising ports I’ve ever played. While there were a ton of first-party Wii games worth loving at the time, third-party publishers seemed to have a hard time (or little interest in) leveraging the unique Wiimote + nunchuk control scheme for mature titles. Resi 4 had the obvious advantages of already being a top-notch beast, but I’ll be damned if it wasn’t elevated even further by some light-gun-like 1:1 shooting gameplay. Waggle-tastic QuickTime Events can still go to hell, of course.

MK8 is still a superb kart racing game and just as addictive as it was in 2014. It’s the best entry in the series so far, and it has all the content you’ll ever need. Returning players will especially appreciate the revamped Battle mode.

All three of these games seem old. I get it. But it would be crazy to underestimate Arkham Knight’s visuals (which often outshine modern Bat-titles). And when it comes to gameplay and story, well, all three of these games are also on par with Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad.
