Tech giants demand transparency on abuse

As online child sexual abuse increases, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner is demanding that tech giants be transparent about what they are doing to combat the problem. He has issued legal notices to companies including Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft, requiring biannual reports on their actions against child abuse – including AI-generated child abuse – livestreaming, grooming and extortion. The move comes as a review of the Online Safety Act considers tougher laws for tech companies.
