The JBL Live Beam 3 headphones are their latest offering, following the JBL Tour Pro 2, with similar features and looks that I unfortunately never tested. But from the start, I was intrigued by the ability to control your music from your earbud case and how well they work. But these may offer more than you might expect after testing them for a few weeks. You can see a detailed first look here.
The presentation is as always excellent and easily identifiable in store or online and the whole package is cool enough to highlight as one of my favourite headphone cases this year so far and that is due to what can be done and how you can use the case and I am pretty sure more will follow in time which is what some Chinese manufacturers have done with rampant Facebook ads with a really cheap price tag so be warned these will most likely be cheap and brutal knock offs some even using the JBL logo and trying to hide it. yes we saw you….
So the case is great and the earbuds are small in size with small stems, LED lights and magnetic dots to stay put in your case with subtle branding on the outside of the stem, depending on the colour this may stand out more but not in your face.
Of course, you have the JBL app to set up the earbuds and you can also use the case to do so. However, once you set up via the app, I find that you won’t need to go near the earbuds anymore. You can even get message notifications on the earbud case, which is handy and it’s also a good way to get away from your phone, giving you a little taste of detox, which isn’t a bad idea. The notifications aren’t rich, but it’s still a great idea.
Moving on to the sound, as we go into detail about the case in the video review below and overall it’s as you’d expect from the brand with their custom sounds and access to apps, you have control not only from your phone but also from the case, with their 10mm drivers the treble, bass and mids are all very good, nice bass and after going through my test it all came across very well, you can customise the sound to your own requirements which is vital on a pair of headphones and no issues for me, no lag, latency or tinny sound when cranked up to max, that’s how I like to listen to my music and movies etc.
Some might find the case to be a gimmick but I found myself using it all the time and with some trips I’ve taken I’ve taken them with me and will be doing so very soon on my next tech trips so watch out for some cool new tech coming soon here on the site and on YouTube.
Battery life is also solid and you get an IP55 rating and with your ANC and very good ambient sound these should definitely be on your radar and not too expensive either compared to Apple’s benchmark offerings.
