“The First Descendant” uses barely modified “Destiny 2” icons

[ad_1]

While The First Descendant is built primarily from Warframe DNA, players have noticed that a number of the game’s icons look awfully similar to those from Destiny 2. One of these might be a coincidence, but there are a lot of them, and that’s without checking more than a small % of all the icons in the game.

In this case, you can see that there are tiny edits on almost all of them, a “copy my homework without making it look like you copied it” type of situation, but it’s pretty clear that if they weren’t straight out of Destiny, they were copied almost exactly with these little additions or subtractions added.

While I’m not sure if anything else is identical to this in-game, players have noticed a weapon that looks a lot like the one in Destiny 2. The weapon in question is the Different Dream, which you can see above. And the idea is that it took its design aesthetic from the IKELOS weapon series in Destiny 2, namely the IKELOS sniper:

And even more so the Sleeper Simulant.

The question is whether this is a photo taken or a tribute. I don’t know. It certainly looks like the aesthetic, but it’s definitely not a exact copy. This gun and the Sleeper one seem extremely close, obviously. Although the fact that the gun is called “Different Dream” makes me think it might be an homage rather than a rip-off. I’m… almost willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The icon thing is worse, if you ask me, and if they did it there…

There are a few other things, so far. There’s a shielded enemy with a weak point in the center that reacts essentially identically to a Cabal phalanx when struck. There’s of course one of the game’s major art pieces that was compared to Destiny before its release, though it’s a small orb of gel, not a ghost.

Overall, The First Descendant feels like an amalgamation of multiple games with relatively little original concept. Again, it’s at least 85% Warframe DNA in almost every sense of the word, with more intrusive and expensive microtransactions (although those mostly come from Warframe as well).

I think there’s a lot that could be overlooked even though the “inspiration” is clear, if you can call it that. But the icons are problematic and I wonder if Bungie will try to do something about it. I don’t know if other icons can be taken from other games that I don’t play. I’ll keep looking for other points of comparison and submit any you might have on Twitter.

I’ve reached out to Nexon and Bungie for comment, and will update if I hear back.
