The First Descendant’s new hero Luna looks and sounds a little too familiar

While The First Descendant obviously took a lot of concepts from other games like Warframe, it sometimes goes a little too far, such as the discovery that it used a number of UI icons that were nearly identical to those in Destiny 2, which were later changed.

What now? The First Descendant is about to introduce its first new hero since launch, Luna, and uh, well, we have a similar problem here.

Luna is a music-based hero who provides your team with various bonuses. And if that reminded you of Lucio from Overwatch, well, check out the weapon they both share.

But wait, there’s more! The new Luna skin that Nexon revealed yesterday takes us on a different hero shooter, namely Marvel Rivals, where her name, and now her hair, are essentially identical to Luna Snow, a K-pop idol with ice powers who debuted in another game a while back and made her way to the comics.

So, we ask a question we’ve asked before, is this a rip-off or an homage? We’ve already dealt with a First Descendant sniper rifle called the “Different Dream” that very much echoes the aesthetic of Destiny 2’s “Sleeper Simulant” weapon, and you could consider this an homage.

Here? I mean Blizzard doesn’t have the concept of a music-based hero with a music-based speaker gun. I also don’t think she’s a healer, even though she’ll provide buffs to other teams and is clearly a support character like him.

As for Luna Snow, the hairstyle in question here is an optional cosmetic, not her default, so it could be considered an homage to Marvel’s South Korean hero (Nexon is a Korean company). And uh, well, their names are the same. No ice powers though.

Actually, I think overall The First Descendant does a good job. not The characters in the game are too close to those in other games, both in design and concept. At least, nothing like that. It seems a bit too close to those two games, in a way, where Viessa isn’t called Emma Frost or something. Other characters like Bunny, Valby or Freyna stand on their own quite well.

Will anything change here? This time, I doubt it. Nothing is “stolen” per se, it’s just… very close to these other things. Luna will be released on August 2nd.
