Samsung makes some of the best smartwatches for Android users, but when you expect these Galaxy Watches to be accurate fitness trackers, they start to fall apart. Their heart rate and GPS tracking are mediocre.
If you own a Galaxy Watch 4 and are disappointed with its inaccurate heart rate and GPS tracking, you should consider upgrading to the Galaxy Watch 7. Here are two important reasons why.
Two good reasons why Galaxy Watch 4 users should upgrade to the Galaxy Watch 7
Samsung has finally upgraded its heart rate sensors and GPS to improve workout tracking accuracy with the Galaxy Watch 7 (and Galaxy Watch Ultra).
1. Samsung’s new sensor is said to be much more accurate
The Galaxy Watch 7 uses Samsung’s next-generation BioActive sensor with more LEDs (with more colors) and precise LEDs. The South Korean firm claims that this new sensor offers more accurate heart rate tracking than the previous generation’s sensor.
More importantly, the new sensor captures 30% more accurate data during high-intensity workouts. That’s important because the heart rate tracking accuracy of most smartwatches and fitness trackers tends to decrease when there’s a lot of movement.
Samsung also changed the shape of the surface near the Galaxy Watch 7’s sensors to improve heart rate tracking accuracy, although that meant omitting Wireless PowerShare charging via Galaxy smartphones.
2. Dual frequency GPS for improved outdoor workout tracking accuracy
Samsung has integrated a dual-frequency GPS into its new smartwatch. It can accurately determine the lane the user is on rather than simply detecting the road.
This can also improve location tracking accuracy in places where there are many obstacles between the smartwatch and GPS satellites. For example, cities have many tall buildings or trees on sidewalks. Another example is running trails with lots of tree cover, hills, or mountains.
So whether you’re biking or running around town or on a trail, dual-frequency GPS should improve your location accuracy.
For most people, these two improvements could be the difference between buying a particular smartwatch or not. The South Korean company also claimed that it is using AI to improve the accuracy of heart rate and sleep tracking.
So if you (like me) are disappointed with the accuracy of your Galaxy Watch 4’s health and fitness tracking, the Galaxy Watch 7 could be a great upgrade for you, especially since the Galaxy Watch 4 likely won’t receive any Wear OS updates after the upcoming One UI Watch 6 update based on Wear OS 5.
