The “I” in us: NAIDOC WEEK Dr Todd Fernando and Dan Powell
Welcome to a very special episode of NAIDOC WEEK The I in Us. Hear what The “I” in us has a remarkable first episode of season 2 in store for you tonight. For NAIDOC Week, Paul and Little Jase talk to two exceptional guests: Dr Todd Fernando and Dan Powell.
Todd Fernando grew up in New South Wales. He has been involved as an academic at the University of Melbourne for over fifteen years. In 2021, Todd completed a PhD in Medical Anthropology, focusing on LGBTIQA+ health and wellbeing, and Indigenous perspectives and influence on healing and research methodology. Todd was also the second Victorian Commissioner for LGBTIQA+ Communities.
Dan Powell was raised in Victoria. A dedicated professional, he is deeply committed to inclusion and diversity. He is currently the First Nations Program Coordinator at Rainbow Health Australia. The program is delivered by the Australian Rainbow Research Centre for Sex, Health and Society and is based at Latrobe University. Dan also leads programs and initiatives aimed at the health and wellbeing of the LGBTIQA+ and First Nations communities, also at Latrobe University.
