The OnePlus 12R Sunset Dune is chic, stylish, and now on sale

The OnePlus 12R is a watered-down version of the flagship OnePlus 12, offering similar performance and display capabilities. Now available in a new colour variant, the OnePlus 12R in Sunset Dune looks classy and stylish. It resembles the Cool Blue variant’s finish rather than the OnePlus 12R Iron Gray. Here’s a closer look at its aesthetics and features. Here’s what it looks like and what’s new.

Unlike the OnePlus 11 Marble Odyssey Edition, the OnePlus 12R doesn’t offer a unique finish for each unit. Instead, OnePlus describes the color as “a delicate fusion of gold and pink, creating a visual symphony that echoes the serene and majestic contours of wind-sculpted sand.” I agree for the most part.

The OnePlus 12R in its Sunset Dune colorway looks sleek and classy. Until you notice the fingerprints on the back. It’s like the blue variant, where the finish is glossy and gets smudged. That being said, the phone looks and feels premium in the hand. It reminds me of the OnePlus 7 Pro in the Almond option, one of my all-time favorite OnePlus colors.

Aside from the new color, the OnePlus 12R in Sunset Dune is identical to the 12R that launched alongside the OnePlus 12 earlier this year. It offers the same comfortable feel in the hand with flat top and bottom edges but curved sides, so it doesn’t feel sharp in the palm.

The OnePlus 12R Sunset Dune features the same 6.78-inch AMOLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s bright, sharp, and vivid. You’ll enjoy consuming content on this screen. The curved sides are slimmed down so you don’t register false touches.

It is powered by the previous generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The device is fast, smooth, and responsive. The OnePlus 12R is on my list of best gaming phones for a reason: the larger cooling system (76% larger than the OnePlus 11R) allows it to run smoothly during intensive tasks.

The OnePlus 12R features a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro camera. It faces tough competition from Vivo and Motorola phones in the same price range. The 50MP primary camera captures good photos, but the ultra-wide-angle camera is average and the macro sensor is forgettable.

The OnePlus 12R is equipped with a 5,500mAh battery that supports 100W fast charging. Its lifespan is estimated at 1,600 cycles, which is more than four years. When I tested the OnePlus 12R at launch, it easily lasted a full day for two weeks, and I expect the same from the new Sunset Dune variant.
