  • iPhone owners upload photos of their outfits to their phone’s Notes app.
  • Gen Z’s viral style trick helps people remember and plan their appearance.
  • Here are the iPhone features to use if you want to try it out.

Gen Z fashionistas are taking wardrobe organization into their own hands and using a simple iPhone feature to do it.

While Pinterest boards provide style ideas, some young people are turning to the Notes app instead. They can upload photos of their wardrobes and outfits and plan their looks based on the clothes they already own.

A big plus: There are no special apps or tools to download. This closet organization hack is achievable with an up-to-date iOS device.

It’s unclear who first discovered it, but it was popularized by influencer Morgan Riddle in 2023. It’s especially useful for planning outfits for vacations, and many people break it down by location or occasion.

TikTok users are loving this hack for helping them remember their favorite outfits and plan their trips. Some have compared it to dress-up toys like Polly Pocket or the changeable avatars in the video game Fortnite.

Here’s how to create your own version of Cher Horowitz’s closet from the movie “Clueless.”

Start in your Photos app

You can either try on potential outfits or use photos you’ve already taken, but you’ll want to use full-length photos of yourself.

Pro tip: For best results, choose images where you are the center of attention and the only one in the photo.

Once you’ve chosen your first photo, tap on your body until it’s highlighted with a glowing outline and a list of options at the top. Then tap “copy.”

Now go to the Notes app

You can copy and paste your images into the Notes app.

Once you’ve copied your outfit, open the Notes app and select a note to paste your image into. You can use a generic title like “Outfits” or name your note after a trip or occasion.

Tap anywhere on the empty note to paste your outfit. It will probably take up most of the note at first, but don’t worry.

To reduce the size of your note and make room for more images, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the note. When the options appear, tap “View Attachments,” then select “Collapse All.” This should reduce the size of your images. You can do this after you’ve added all your attachments, but doing it after the first one made it easier for me to organize them.

Repeat it and customize it to suit your needs

Once you’ve downloaded all of your outfits, it’s time to organize them however you like. Since I’m not traveling anytime soon, I’ve sorted some past outfits by the season they’re best suited for.

You can also sort them by a particular aesthetic or the type of event they would be worn to.

As someone who tends to plan her outfits about an hour before leaving the house, I was skeptical of this trick.

However, being able to keep track of my favorite looks over the years made this tool a useful one.

I may not want to repeat my “fits,” but having them side by side gives me new inspiration on how to mix and match my clothes.
