Yakuza/Like a Dragon fans waiting for information on Ryu ga Gotoku Studio’s next big title may have to wait a little longer for something concrete, but during a recent Anime Expo panel, series producer Hiroyuki Sakamoto hinted at big things ahead. RGG reportedly told attendees that he couldn’t reveal the next game East, but that we will be “surprised” by it.
Fans at the event later clarified that the team was specifically talking about the next entry in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, so it seems pretty safe to say that we won’t be surprised by another Super Monkey Ball announcement anytime soon. RGG has also recently revealed the 10 finalists of its auditions to find models for an in-game mini-game in the upcoming title Like a Dragon, implying that the next game will not be significantly changing the open world urban structure of the rest of the series.
The future of RGG/Like a Dragon looks exciting with a live-action series adaptation set to air on Amazon Prime Video in October. Directed by Take Masaharu and Takimoto Kengo, the series will consist of six episodes released in two batches, with the first set to air on October 24 (25th in some regions) and November 1. As reported by VarietyIt will take place over two time periods in 1995 and 2005 and will follow the life and story of the series’ iconic protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu.
I gave the latest Like a Dragon game, Infinite Wealth, a whopping 9/10 in my review, stating: “Infinite Wealth is a stellar sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon in almost every way. It’s bigger, bolder, and with some clever tweaks to the combat, it’s a significantly better turn-based RPG. Fans of the series have a lot to look forward to with the larger-than-life story and emotional character moments, and while there are a few glaring issues with its dungeons and post-game offerings, the end result is the best entry in the franchise to date.”
