You will not be able to seduce your companions Declaredbecause the developers of the upcoming RPG wanted to make sure that all relationships in the game were correct, whether romantic or not.
In an interview with Windows CentralCreative director Carrie Patel reiterated that Avowed 2 doesn’t have romance. “Despite Obsidian acknowledging that “it’s something a lot of players love,” it seems concerns over scope meant your relationships will remain purely platonic.
“We wanted to make sure that if we were to include it, [we] “There was an equally significant non-romantic path,” Patel explains. “Given how much we’ve invested in our companions as characters who are really tied to the central story in a way that a lot of our previous games haven’t been, we wanted to make sure that if we were going to do romance, we were really, really, really going to do it right — or not at all.”
Patel mentions that Obsidian had “considered the investment required” to incorporate romance as a notable feature, but that the final decision was made “to focus on other aspects of our companions.” It certainly sounds like bandwidth questions were asked – Avowed, after all, is Obsidian’s fantasy answer to The Outer Worlds series of sci-fi RPGs, which itself is something of an answer to Fallout. Obsidian’s RPGs are deliberately smaller than the Bethesda games they offer as alternatives, so I can see the studio avoiding features that might risk adding a sense of bloat to the game.
Elsewhere in the interview, Patel had something similar to say about The lack of multiplayer in Avowed. Praise Baldur’s Gate 3 Larian, the game’s developer, explains that “what’s important to us is making sure we have a really solid campaign,” and that while co-op RPGs aren’t “unsolvable,” some studios have years of practice. Patel, on the other hand, is focused on “delivering the things that players expect from an Obsidian RPG, which is a really well-developed story, meaningful choices and consequences, and the ability to be the agent of change in the world.”
Obsidian made Fallout: New Vegas in 18 months, but Avowed took the studio five years: “It was a long development cycle”
