Tokyo, July 10 (Jiji Press) — Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. announced Wednesday that it has established a global licensing business for the popular game “Palworld.”

Sony Music, a unit of electronics and entertainment giant Sony Group Corp., has formed the joint venture Palworld Entertainment Inc. with its subsidiary Aniplex Inc. and game developer Pocketpair Inc. to manage Palworld’s intellectual property rights other than the interactive game.

Palworld Entertainment will collaborate with Sony Group, which has expertise in intellectual property. At the same time, Aniplex plans to sell Palworld products.

The new company is headed by Pocketpair President Takuro Mizobe. Its capital and shareholder distribution were not disclosed.

Palworld is an open-world multiplayer survival game in which players collect fictional creatures called Pals to participate in combat, farming, and working in factories. Within a month of the game’s release in January, the total number of players surpassed 25 million.
