SPY PHOTOS: Softened 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

Barely a month after the global revelation of the New generation BMW 1 Seriesthe all-new premium four-door sedan – the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé – has been spotted undergoing development testing.

Despite its black and white camouflage, the design similarities between the sedan and its sleeker four-door “coupe” counterpart are obvious to all, especially up front where the same small headlights and rounded nose design are found.

Beyond that, though, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe – which will once again target the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedans – appears to have lost a lot of its appeal. the machismo of his predecessor featuring much softer body lines, a smoother body kit, smaller, more conservative wheels and a seemingly higher ride height.

Regardless, the new version of BMW’s smallest sedan will be significantly larger than the model it replaces and available with a range of upgraded powertrains offering more power and better fuel efficiency, although Australian examples will likely lack mild-hybrid technology. according to series 1.

But the new body will be supported by a new platform and complemented by an all-new interior featuring the latest technology and comfort.

There’s a good chance the Australian line-up will include an entry-level 220 and flagship M235 xDrive, as in the current model line-up locally, leaving plenty of room in between for new variants and special editions to be added at a later date.

Given the amount of camouflage installed on the prototype you see here, we’d expect an official reveal to take place either late this year or in the first half of 2025, before an Australian release later next year, giving the new 1 Series roughly a full year alone in the spotlight.

The current 2 Series Gran Coupe is the worst-selling compact model in BMW Australia’s arsenal so far this year, with just 316 examples delivered between January and June compared to 530 for the 1 Series sedan and a staggering 900 for the 2 Series coupe and convertible.
