You can get the iconic Xbox 360 blades as a dynamic background on Series X|S

Remember the Xbox 360? It was a good time. I remember some of my favorite titles like Viva Pinata, Lost Odyssey, and Gears of War 2 whenever I see the iconic “Blades” that made the console’s first system’s user interface so memorable (and usable!).

Now, with the Xbox 360 digital store closing looming on July 29, Xbox has brought back the blades one last time with a new dynamic background for the Xbox Series X|S consoles’ main menu. It has that familiar green and grey look with the curved tabs jutting out from the sides, suggesting more fun just a few steps away, though the “dynamic” nature of the background unfortunately doesn’t take these elements into account and simply offers a few faint, slightly animated circles to spruce up the vacant middle ground.

It’s still a bit of free nostalgia for those who want it. More importantly, perhaps, it coincides with a final round of discounted Xbox 360 digital games that fans can grab before the ability to buy them is completely removed. You can find the full list of those games here.

To get the Xbox 360 Blades background, follow these simple steps:

  • Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
  • Go to Profile & System > Settings > General > Personalization > My Background > Dynamic Backgrounds.
  • Choose Xbox 360 Blades under Featured Dynamic Backgrounds or Xbox
  • Select the desired background using the A button.
